A cavity, or hole in the tooth, is caused by the plaque that develops from poor brushing and flossing. A filling is typically required to treat a cavity. The dentist will decide how and when to fill the cavity. A bonded resin, gold or porcelain can be used to fill the tooth.
At your appointment
The dentist will use a local anesthetic near the affected tooth to numb the gums. If nerves are a concern, we can use an oral, inhaled or intravenous type of sedation method, whichever is best for your situation.
