Sometimes the nerve of a tooth can become infected. When this occurs a root canal may be the solution. Also known as endodontic treatment, a root canal is extracting the infected pulp from the root of the tooth. This helps save the tooth rather than having it removed altogether. After a root canal, the tooth will need a filling or a crown to bring it back to normal.
At your appointment
The area surrounding the problem tooth will be given a local anesthetic. The dentist uses a very fine tool to carefully extract the infected pulp. A filling or cap will be applied during that appointment or a follow-up.
